Thread: 2" + 2" what size tyre?

im running 265/70/16 silverstone at 117 and really could do with 4.11 gearing as 200tdi struggles sometimes. if your running v8 that might be different although in victoria thats the legal maximum and going too large kinda voids your insurance. Also running standard offset wheels due to not wanting to put undue stress on bearings....... i think 25mm you can widen the track legally combined right and rear......so not much play. Dont get me wrong im no stickler for rules but these ones actually i agree with from another POV i.e. $$$ as wheel bearings arent free and who hell wants to change em in the bush

My girl is shod with 235/85r16 Maxxis Bighorns, std offset, I have a 2" lift and a camel cut, I dont have extended bump stops although I should have as they hit the top rear inner guard of heavy articulation, I going to add 50mm spring spacers to the read and 30mm to the front, I have cranked trailing arms as well

Just a little more info to ponder. I'm currently running a 2" lift and a 2" bodylift with standard disco steel rims and 235/85/16 tyres.

I'm after what max size offset and tyre size others may be running with that combination without opting for cut guards and full flares.

265's on standard off set rims is about the widest you can go without going to flares, with off set rims you really cant go any wider that 235/245 which is kinda pointless with a 2 +2 lift - may as well just fit flares and fit decent sized rubber.

I have two plus two also and had to fit flares for my 33's.

What's this rubbish about wheel bearings? It is so rare that a wheel bearing dies on a landrover, they only do if they are rubbish bearings or not getting lubricated. After having landy's for around 15 years, I only just bought new bearings for my rangie as it is a project and everything is getting replaced. Never had a bearing fail, and that includes running -25 mm offset wheels with 35" simex centipedes.
Back to the original post, loan is right, as soon as you change the offset, its time for flares (with decent rubber), I have some 285/75/16 on standard steel rims, fit with a big camel cut and no flares.

Over the last 19 years of landy ownership (81 RRC, 85 RRC and my current D1 ) i have never had to replace any wheel bearings, if i'm working on the hubs or brakes etc i just repack with grease, tension the nuts and leave em alone.

I thought as much.

I just tried to put the cart before the horse. Plus, the outlay for flares, rims and big tyres in one go is going to hurt.

Can't be seen with huge flares, lift and pizza cutters......
