    central locking alarms and keys

    okay

    first problem with new disco

remote wont trigger the central locking or unlocking

was working fine till an hour ago

    alarm works

key will open the drivers side door but won't close it. key wont even start moving to the lock position.

locks and unlocks the passenger side as it should

drivers door appears to be only one that will trigger the central lock / unlock

if you sit inside and close all the doors the central locking works fine

so it is only the remote and the fact i cant turn the key to lock the thing that doesnt seem to be working

    question 1

should i be able to lock the drivers door and trigger the central locking with the key alone?

what would stop the key rotating to lock the door?

The door locks dont get much use if the remote is working so tend to seize or get tight. You shouldnt use WD40 or similar in a lock but some times you just need to. A quick squirt and try to turn with the key. Once it works use it occasionally to keep it working.

Yes. We don't have an actual remote for Nan's Disco and use this method (key in driver's door lock) all the time.

Give the lock mechanism a spray with lanolin spray (not the barrel) , also check batteries in remote. You should only to arm or disarm alarm by the drivers door l8ck.

    new batteries make no difference

so will have to pull the door apart in due course...

Be extra careful with those door liner panels Inc.
The little black plastic doohickeys that hold it all together, are far too easy to break.

$0.50 for the doors and $1.00 for the tailgate door

I can't remember if there were 8 or 10 per door but i do remember breaking most of them.

The other thing to be careful of is pulling out the lock tabs that are glued to the door trim that the trim clips fit into, they are a pain to glue back in and line up properly.

Its fine to spray locks with WD40,CRC RP7 etc, you wont hurt them.
I use INOX at work (Locksmith) everyday and its great, give the lock a 1 second blast straight in the keyhole, you may need to hold the small flap open with something, put the key in and out a few times and this may free it up, if not the handles are pretty easy to strip down and service just let me know if your going to and Ill give you some tips.

Sounds like to remote is out of sync with the car, try pushing the button repeatedly, 4 times I think, my does it quite often,

    Thanks
    Tristan
