300TDi kms
Hi guys just Curious how many kms everyone has on their 300tdi's and how they're still holding up?
My 98 300tdi disco is on 116000kms atm and havent had any major trouble so far, been serviced on time consistently but anything I should be expecting to need replacing anytime soon? driven sensibly and rarely taken off road before I came to acquire it (It was my parents car before I got it so I know its been cared for)
At about 150000kms is there anything I should look at being taken apart and checked maybe gearbox or something like that?

i think the timing belt needs to be done every 60K so you will be up for that soon. have you pulled carpets under passenger front footwell to check for rust? water can build up there from the air con and windscreen leaking as well as normal 4wding.

Its only just run in at those Kms.
My 96 TDi has just clicked over 370,000 Kms and is still going strong. But some small things are starting to show signs of wear. eg. suspension bushes, shockers (replaced once). Repairs to date are: water pump replaced, alternator reconditioned (most just replace with new), power steering pump,
and Fan bearing. Timing belts are due every 100,000 kms. Regular servicing has been done.

Mine is up to around 390,000 (373 indicated but I spent quite awhile while a speedo a few years ago). Normal stuff - head gasket at 250. timing belt every 100. 1 each of water pump, clutch, alternator. Recently did the injector pump and steering pumps - for leaks rather than failures. Oh... and front window regulators and PCB for rear windows.Getting a little tired now but mechanically solid. I have got to have a crack at the roof lining!!

Thats very low milage for a 300TDI and theres a guy on here who'd put 900k + without any major rebuilds so should last you a long while.
My 97 has 135k and I have owned since new. Heres what I have had to change.
3 x timing belts (one at 20k after rubbing on cover)
1 x radiator
1 x vacuum pump (repaired)
2 x Idler tensioner bearing
1 x ZF box rebuild after overheating
1 x driveplate
1 x Transfer box seal (front driveshaft)
2 x T-seal (crankseal)
1 x thermostat
Usual routine belt + filter changes.
Fitted Bilsteins shocks and new springs about 10 years ago.
Is your auto? if so a filter and fluid change is a good idea.
Cheers
Mark
