    93 Pre update D1 Imobilizer

    Hi all,

I have a 93 pre update D1 and reading post on here of late people have had trouble with immobilizers, now my one works like this if I get in the disco and turn the ignition on there are no lights until I push the button on the fob ( picture attached, not sure if its genuine or after narket maybe someone can tell me) there are 2 buttons only one works and thats all it does, it does not unlock the doors or anything, now my question is, does this model have a spider and if so were is it as the radio is in a different spot in pre updates and will a bypass like the AMR4956 do the job

    AMR4956 | eBay

Im just worried it will fail one day, its battery went flat once while out in the bush and as it has a small 12v in it I managed to connect 2 wires from the main battery to get me going

Oh I should also mention there is no alarm as it appears disconnected and when I turn the the ignition off and ger out after about 2 mins the indicators flash twicw and it arms itself.

This is an aftermarket alarm, it will be wired into the ignition harness under the dash. The best thing to do is to find the immobiliser, unpick the lashings of black tape and work out which wires have been cut. Solder some extensions to the wires and hide a robust switch somewhere that reconnects these wires manually. I had one of these alarms on my wife's Camry, it drove me nuts so I removed it and replaced it with a simple central locking controller instead. Nowadays nearly all cars worth stealing have some sort of immobiliser so thieves have gotten into the habit of breaking into your house to steal the keys regardless. Or they drive tow trucks.
