    Angry Central locking starting problem!!

    Hi, Can anyone help??

I have a 98 Tdi300 Disco with issues. I have been reading all day but cannot really find where the problem lies.

The problem. Firstly, the central locking via the FOB was erratic until it finally died. I replaced the battery in the FOB without helping!

Then, the bloody car wouldn't start unless I locked the car with the key and then unlocked it. That works "Most" times!

When I stop the engine and get out of the car and back in again the immobiliser stops the engine cranking again and I have to get out and lock the car and unlock it to get it to crank.

I have pulled out the immobilisor and checked it and it seems good. I checked the solder joints and reheated a few iffy ones but, nothing has changed.
I have "looked at" the relays and they all seem OK but, I don't know how to check relays to prove they are OK!
All the fuses are OK and now I'm lost! The Unit is a Lucas 10AS ECU.

I'd be happy to hard wire the Unit to bypass the immobilisor but, cannot find anyone who shows the way.

    Anyone help please??

My Father owns a 96 Disco, same issue.

We are now going through the electrics, eliminating rusted/corroded connectors / power - earth issues and input/outputs issues. There are some switches (on the Doors) that we have to check as they are also inputs to the Immob/Theft ECU.

He has had a lot of trouble with the Fob/Immob issues.
Would start with out a problem for weeks, then all of a sudden Fob wouldn't work and then car wouldnt start. Tried many things, leave it over night, it would come good, then stop working again later in the day.

Car was used near the ocean/sea and used for boat towing (used on boat ramps). I have explained to my Father about corrosion issues and would highly suspect a loose connecter or corroded terminals.

Theft/Immob ECU has Inputs / Outputs, if the ECU doesn't get the right sequence of inputs, the Theft/Immob ECU doesn't unlock or has erratic operation.
But yet to identify what the issue is as we have only just started looking this morning.

My father just mentioned he played (wiggled) with the wires around the Theft/Immob ECU and the Hazards came on by themselves. It took a few minutes, but they then turned off, I just read here before something about the Hazards coming on by themselves.

There is a bypass harness available for the immobiliser.
    part number AMR4956.
This will disable the immobiliser but central locking and alarm still work.

They have them at Karcraft Sydney for $17.95 (old catalog)

    AMR4956 <A> 17.95 HARNESS - IMMOBILISATION - L/R DISC (TA>VA534104)(SPYDER

    Engine dies

Hello, Sorry to hear about the problems.

My 1995 300tdi suddenly dies in traffic for no obvious reason. It happens maybe twice a year every year and just stops. I can crank it as much as I like but it will not fire up until I wait for about 10 minutes (probably has to cool down). Then it will fire up again.

I have given up trying to work it out.
