Can't start my 300tdi...
So after an exhaustive month of breakdowns and failures I have done something to the disco and its dead (ish).
So some background;
I have had to replace (in order) the alternator, Power steering pump (and belts) and then steering box over the last month. While I was waiting for the Steering box to arrive I whipped the roof lining out and had it re done. Took the car for a test drive to make sure the steering box was all good and parked up on the drive. This was the last time she worked.
While the roof lining was out I installed a GME TX3100 in the roof console. I ran the wires through the passenger foot well grommet (the big rectangular looking one). Got the roof back and put it back in, checked the UHF - all good. Went to start the car..... Not turning over. Dash lights come on fine, radio, headlights etc etc.
Rang British Off Road after checking all the fuses - They suggested the starter motor. Whipped it out, cleaned the connections and put a new one in. Same issues.
Looking online thought it may be the spider - took the dash off today and I don't have one by the look of it. Looking at the Green alarm box in the passenger foot well thinking I may have knocked something while running the UHF cables and I noticed 2 "broken" wires coming through the fire wall. One is black and the other is black with a yellow stripe. The black with the yellow has about 10mm of copper wire exposed that is cut at an angle.
I have had a look though the massive bundles of wire and can not see any other wires that would match up with the broken ones. I don't know if I broke them or they were like that but hidden away in the cabling.
Any one like to take a guess at what the issue is? I have booked a mobile auto sparky to come have a look on Friday but I don't know what to do till then...
Cheers,
KC

Right disregard the whole thing.
The two wires were the same wire broken in half and it looks like it was possibly the feed to the exciter on the starter motor hence the car not starting.
Trimmed it and spliced in a new length, fired up first time. Wish I could solder better though....

Could be a couple of things. I'd be checking and cleaning my earths. Battery and starter motor. Try shorting the terminals to make sure the motor actually works. Also there is an inertia switch located under the glovebox. When activated or maybe in ur case shorted, you will need to perform a resetting sequence with the key, instruction are in the owners manual. Make sure the wires have been repaired first though! And a quick check on the wires come coming from the key barrel wouldn't go amiss either. If u haven't a test light grab one from the local auto shop. Just remember u are trying to create a relatively simple circuit , check each component of the circuit in turn. Basic troubleshooting processes will take you way farther than randomly checking things!
Hope this helps! Writing on a 2.5 in touchscreen so apologies if I've repeated things!
