    Overheating problems

Right I seem to have a overheating problem on the new disco, it was gone last night when i drove it back from Melbourne 300 KM's no problems. but today I drove it into town in 35 degrees and it overheats, takes around 20 KM's at 100 kph to overheat but I've tryed bleeding it and that made no difference, I've checked the thermostat and that is working, pulled off the water pump as that seems ok but I'm not sure about the viscous fan

If this is Knackered where's the best place to get one ?

Any other ideas or am I about right ? Meant to be getting a RWC today so need it fixed ASAP

When you start the car up the fan should roar for the first few minutes of driving. Does yours do this? On hot days and with the A/C the bimetallic strip on the viscous can get hot enough to fully lock up and you should hear the whirring roaring sound of the fan when in heavy traffic and in particularly hot days. I have heard you can use a hair dryer to check the viscous operation by blowing hot air on the coupling but haven't done so myself. I recently replaced my viscous coupling as the disco kept overheating on the sand and has been all good since then. I'd just replace it anyway they're not too expensive.

My fan hub hasn't been working for about 6 months and I've had no dramas in town or on the highway. I would suggest getting your radiator cleaned.

Where did you source your coupling from ?

It's fine when I'm in town it's just cruxing at 100 in high temp it creeps up after 20 KM's got 2 big light force lights a number plate and ARB on the front which doesn't help airflow either

That all points towards a blocked radiator. It's not getting enough coolant flow through the core. A good way to test that will be to remove your thermostat (potentialy giving you more flow) if it improves it's a fair indicator that your rad needs a clean it's not to expensive to get done either.

Mine "roars" when started & then quietens down but as we're getting more into summer & hotter it's roaring off & on all the time. It especially happens when air-con is on &/or 4wding, taking off from traffic lights etc.
Is this the viscous fan clutch?????
    Thanks

p.s. I put a new viscous clutch on but it was working against electric fans as I found out later, see above/below post

When I bought mine it was all right around town but long distances were shocking, it turned out to be the previous owner put the wrong fan on i.e. it was facing/blowing the wrong way. It seems that the serpentine belt fans blow opposite way to v-belt fans, just a thought for you

Tig welded the fan solid and no problems now, bit of a bodge but proves the viscous theory and keeps me going will get a new one sorted soon and mabie a rad clean too,

Yeah serpentines are a right hand thread whereas most are left hand so it spins the oppsite way

Probably a stupid question but is there any advantages/disadvantages to removing the viscous altogether and mounting the fan directly so it spins ssme speed all the time?
