URGENT 31 inch tyres on standard 300 tdi gearing

    Hi all,

    31 inchers on manual 300 tdi disco1?

Does anyone have this setup and how do you find it fuel consumption and acceleation wise?

31 inch doesn't seem much bigger than standard 245/75.

    Need the info urgently!

    Thanx!

    what car?
I run 31s on a disco 1. 245/75 is close enough to 31 so no real difference.

    It's a 96 disco1 300tdi manual. I bought mine with 245/75 so i taught that was standard.

I run 31x10.5 15s on the 300tdi auto- no issues and the closest the speedo has been to accurate at 100kmh. 245/75 16 is my next choice and as mentioned are about the same. Only that the 15s are way less expensive for my tyre choices.

What about clearance? Did you have to do the camelback cuts at the rear?

Yes I needed the rear camel cut for the 31s. Can also hit the top of wheel arch on full compression when cross axelling with a bit of momentum..noticed this on recent simpson crossing. Otherwise I had not noticed this in 6+ years of driving with this tyre size.

I went from the standard 235/70/16 to 245/75/16 in our auto 300Tdi and didn't notice much difference except the speedo is slightly closer to accurate now, according to the GPS. Didn't have to cut the rear but they did rub a bit on full lock and the lock needed adjustment.
Next time I would go 245/70/16 as I was told that doesn't cause the rubbing on full lock.

Looks like my disco already has some lift. So I might get away with it. Tests soon to come!!!

A lift doesn't stop rubbing, it simply delays it until you're actually stuck.
Then the body grabs a tyre and you're really stuck.
