    300 tdi fuel pump mods

    Me and dad[rangietragic] did some mods to my 300tdi auto fuel pump today.We wound smoke screw 1 1/2 turns in and moved the diaphram from 12 oclock to about 4 oclock.A hill near home that i could do at 70 kph i now do at 90 kph.As i dont have an egr gage have i gone too far?Dad didnt want to take the diaphram any further because of increase temps.Any advice would be helpfull

    shouldnt be too much of a problem,

    wait till you start to wind the fuel screw in... that'll impress ya...

    get and EGT gauge and come on down and I'll have a play

    I initially did the following adjustments with an EGT fitted.

    Diaphragm 5 o'clock
    Starwheel half turn counter clockwise.
    Smoke screw 2 turns clockwise.

    With those settings it would often exceed 700c up a steep hill so I backed off the diaphragm to 3 oclock and now it stays below 700c (just).
    Good idea to fit an EGT gauge though.

    Did a run in dads td5 d2 up same hill this morning.It did same speed

    wait till he chips it....

    and then you'll be looking at better turbos, intercooling, plunger height tweakery, larger exhaust, under drive splitter on the Tcase fuel screw madness, water injection, intercooler sprayers, coolant-charge air coolers, waste gate weldery.........
