    D1 Dilema

    HI All,

    Just after some advice and people's opinions. My D1 has seen better days engine wise and seeing as the rego runs out this week I've decided to park it as I am sick of spending money on it. If I upgrade, am I better off with a V8 or Td5 Disco 2, or go to a later Disco 1 and use parts off mine (lift kit etc) on the newer D1. For all of you who will recommend a Defender, budget constraints won't allow one as they appear to be a fair bit dearer than a same year Disco. The only other option I have is to give the 4WD away all together and go back to a normal car. Thoughts/advice would be great.

    Well going for a newer D1 would save you money in the fact , as you have already pointed out , that you can change over bits.

    But I would go 300tdi as fuel prices rise make for a more pleasant owning experience. Or if you wanted to go D2 go for the TD5.

    But if you go for the D2 remember you will need to buy new toys again.

    But depends what you are going to use it for. If it is just running around town then the toys does not matter but if you are going to off road it then you would want a lift , big tyres and some toys.

    Personally like the D1 over the D2 due to the D1 not have any computers to go wrong. As these trucks get older it is always nice to have a truck you can fix your self with a hammer and chisel like you can on the D1. Not so easy on the D2.

    Red is correct re computers but honesty what does,nt any more it is the way of the world
    Some parts will swap to a d2 some wont , V8 versus Td5 well i have owned several rover V8,s over the years only had 2 Tdi,s , and had 2 Td5,s still have a Td5 . which i prefer the most of any of these engines.

    V8 = Thirsty and not the most powerfull ,its a very small capacity old school motor
    Tdi = noisey not very powerfull (slug) great reliability great economy should have been a tractor engine
    Td5 Great power great economy modern techonolgy and reliable
    This is based on my opinion only Of experience of owner ship

    At the end of the day you make the decision as you will have to live with it

    I would be recommend the 300tdi. its so fuel efficient.. with allisport intercooler and fuel pump tweak they arent as slow as everyone would have you believe and you can use all your old parts and what u end up selling you can use to buy the intercooler and have it tweaked. The fuel efficiency is the main key for me 900-960 kms a tank.... on a competent 4WD ... Yes Please
