How much better is transmax z than dex III for ZF?

So the time has come to give the tranny some love. And super cheap has 4litres of dex3 for about $30, so $90 to do the job. With Transmax z @$85 x 3 = $255.

I don't do any towing but sand driving can be a regular occurrence. Is it 2.5 times better liquid

    thanks fellas

I have been running full synthetic (ELFmatic) since the rebuild and it definitely ran cooler afterwards and the full synthetic is said to handle heat better than the Dex 3.
Only problem is draining all the old fluid out of the torque converter etc as about 4 litres get trapped if you just drop from the sump. Some transmission shops have transfer pump's but a lot of waste it seems and they take around 9 litres (dry fill).

    Cheers

    Cool Ask a local.

Vanderz, have you tried asking the guys down at Cairns Land Rover Specialists , I found them very helpful with lubricant selection for my manual D1 gearbox and transfer case, of cause, any advice you get may be only based on what products they sell, they have a wide range of good lubes and prices are ok with the plus that there is a lot of experience and knowledge of what is necessary and what is just overkill, their advice in my situation cured some tranny problems and I have had no further issues since, just a thought.

I used Transmax Z in my 92 RRC towing for about 10 years and 160KK .
When I sold it at 240KK , the trans was perfect in operation despite towing for much of that time .
My overheat light only came on once and that was water in the switch.
Every about 40KK I changed the filter and fluid and the sump bits were negligible.
I now have a D2 and have switched to Transmax Z.

Who can quantify "how much better" ? but I will do anything I can to protect one of the most expensive components in the car.

AFAIK transmax Z ids much more tolerant of high fluid temperature than Dex 111 and does not break down if run up over 120C or so.

Anyway the question is probably irrelevant as TransmaxZ is now AFAIK discontinued by Castrol and replaced by Transmax DEX VI , which I don't know is suitable for ZF as it is thinner. I have asked Castrol but no answer yet.

I suspect Transmax Z will still be available as its the fluid of choice in large commercial auto transmissions that are flogged.

I wonder why the link to the Transmax Z data sheet on the Castrol site no longer works then.
Rick 130 Have you got any contacts there as they have not responded to me.

    TRANSMAX Z UNAVAILABLE ???

G'Day..... I rang Castrol and the technical adviser told me that transmax z was very hard to get now and I should use transmax-multivehicle and it would mix alright with the 3lts that stays, but of course would be better to get it all out. Do I treat this info as gospel OR do I keep inquiring?? Reading the mixed comments on the forum is a bit worrying.

That's a bugger if its disappeared, it is an exceptional ATF.

Sorry Philip, don't know anyone in the industry anymore.
