Transfer
Wondered if anyone could assist.
After a garage did some work on my Disco to upgrade the clutch system and replace gaskets and seals to fix a oil leak, several months down the line, I still have the leak and the transfer starting making a noise during acceleration.
In August 2013 I had the work done, straight away I noticed a noise upon accelerating and it was still leaking from either the gear box or transfer.
I took the car back to them three times, somewhere along the line they bogged the selector and I also need to fix that.
Since then I have moved 1000Km away and it is not possible to get it back to them.
About a month ago, I replaced the front wheel bearings and the noise got worse, I thought that the noise was diff or bad bearings but after some investigating, I discovered the noise is from the transfer, to clarify this I took it to a local Landrover dealer who confirmed this.
Unfortunately, the Handbrake is not happy because over the last 6 months I have spent twice as much as what the truck is worth. Gearbox/transfer gasket and clutch upgrade, new radiator and coolant system, Head gasket and head skim, new steering box and system.
So I am now nearing the end of my tether, I have decided to remove the transfer box myself and replace the gaskets, seals and bearings myself.
Before I do, just wanted peoples advised on how easy/hard and whether there is anything else I should replace also.
Also if there is anyone local to Geraldton or even in Perth with a spare transfer case, just needing a new home.
Thanks
Hocks

Mate, how bad is it leaking??? I have one that still leaks regardless of what I replace but it's not baad. It seems to leak when I do open highway driving.
I actually replaced the rear Transfer Case seal and it still leaked. I then bought a stainless steel sleeve to slip over the shaft where, the seal had cut a groove over time but, it Still leaked.
I made sure the breathers were breathing but it still leaks. Unless your OCD you may have to live with it, if you ARE OCD you should maybe buy another car (lol) Just check the oil level every couple of months.
To repair the bearings and such??? it's been a long time since I did one but I don't remember it being really difficult. the hardest part is getting the thing in and out of the car from memory. Make sure you have the tools, the Manual and the parts. Good luck!

In the end the transfer wasn't leaking. I miss diagnosed the problem and just prior to ordering the transfer seal and gasket kit, discovered it was the gearbox that was leaking but whole they had it apart and I had the kit, I thought what harm could it do.......unknown to me....a lot.
Nothing but problem. Seems every time I take a car to a garage...I must do more myself.
The gearbox leaks and has since the day I got the car, I think it leaks more now than it did before they had it.
The main concern now, is the output bearing. I'll replace both of them and hopefully fix the problem.
