Mates navara D22 cost over 10k after it sucked in some bits of turbo. He tried a cheapy import from UAE. No such thing as a cheap rebuild...
V8!![]()
We have both V8's & TDi's in our Auckland Club. Whilst the V8 sound great, they only go out on daily runs & there is no mileage from them. Only the Tdis' can make it home after 2 x days running - Simple
I just have to make sure I carry of CD's to drown out the tractor under the bonnet & that side is sorted.
Plus, V8's are EXPENSIVE to run as daily commuters - nobody does that in our club. That's part of the reason why V8's are only 1/2 the price to buy over here in NZ.
The bottom end torque is better that the V8 down off @ idiling speed.
But I do pay big time for that on a long uphill road climb. - no revs no go!.
cheers B.
300tdi, half the rego cost and a well maintained diesel will outlast a well maintained petrol.
Costs saved overall on fuel and rego make up for any repairs and I've found my 300tdi more reliable then my mates v8.
Everyones opinion is different though
Another thing to consider is according to your driving style you could be more likely to mistreat a v8 compared to a 300 but that could work the other way around as well
This reply is a bit about fuel consumption sorry, but if you are considering any distance driving with no available fuel stops, TDI would be my preference. For instance, not having to carry a stack of jerry cans when driving across the Tanami was good. I did enjoy driving a V8 when I had one (other than the breakdowns), but I enjoy the TDI just as much and having the outback range is a huge plus.
