    Tyre options for Disco

Does anyone know if I can fit 245 70 R16s on my 1998 Discovery. Its running the standard wheels and currently has 235 70 R16 on it

    Cheers

Yes you can, may need to wind the steering stops out slightly but otherwise they are a perfect fit for a D1. Just be aware that without a lift they will catch the rear guards when flexing.

I didn't realise you could even get 245/70's... What tyres are they?

    I thought it went 235/70, then 245/75.

Heaps of tyres in 245/70, Rodeo's and other DC utes had that size from factory - I have BFG AT's in 245/70.

I have 245/75/16s with a 50mm lift, so you should be fine. I had to alter the steering stops, but I've been told it may not be necessary with 245/70s. Haven't had other rubbing. Will be interesting to see how you go.
Next time I'll probably go 245/70s.

Just to be clear having a lift is not relevant when talking about 245/75 tyres rubbing on the rear guard. If you put a horizontal line through the rear tyre, the point it rubs is to the rear of the rear guard. Having a lift has no effect on the horizontal clearance of your tyre within the wheel arch.

Let me know if pics are required.

Steering stops are the other mod that is needed but I believe that is more to do with the width ("245") of the tyre.

Yep, 245/70R16s will juuuuust fit. They may just lightly touch the trailing (rear) edge of the rear guards under a heavy flex if on standard rims. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Actually I have a couple of Goodyear AT/Rs in very good nick (near new) available. PM me if interested. As stated elsewhere it is a reasonably common size with Rodeo/Colorado and others. Cheers.

Makes sense they would just fit.

The only other thing I've considering when measuring clearances at both steering stops and rear wheel arch is whether you might ever have to fit snow chains. I have 245/75's and I'm glad i was conservative with my clearances as I've since had chains on front and rear at different times.

Every car seems to be different, depending on which day of the week it was built.
I've seen a stock standard D1 with stock standard 235/70/16 HTs rub on the rear 1/4.
