Hi rob -235/70's are the standard size.
Guys,
Sorry for budding in here.... could someone tell me what the Std Tyre size is on the D1's? I had always thought they were 235/75/16, but it seems like they are 235/70/16.... is that correct?
Also, how big of a tyre can u go b4 u start noticing loss in performance? (ie: On take off, etc around Town....)
245/75/16 be the max b4 its starts effecting the around town performance?
The reason I'm asking is I'm still doing my research on getting a D1 Tdi & would like to know what is a GOOD tyre size where I won't lose too much around town performance, but still have the benefits offroad of slightly more clearance, etc?
Increase height/ground clearance over Std 235 70 16 tyres
235 75 16 - increase in ground clearance of 11.8mm
245 70 16 - increase in ground clearance of 7mm
245 75 16 - increase in ground clearance of 19.3mm
235 85 16 - increase in ground clearance of 35.3mm
cheers....
rob
Hi rob -235/70's are the standard size.
These are 265/75/16's.
The right rear just rubs in really heavy going but the left doesn'talthough I do no that the factory axle alignment wasn't always perfect
Had to adjust the stops.
205R16 or 235/70R16 are the 2 "standard" sizes.
Edit: ^ These are the exact same diameter.
IMO any other tyre will impact performance and fuel economy. If you're really worried about that, just go 235/70's. You can go up to 245/75 with some decrease in performance and fuel economy (~1L/100). If you go 235/85 I imagine you would need to change gearing ratios to keep your sanity.
Link to my old disco on 245/75/R16, you can see the camel cut on the rear wheel arch need to stop them rubbing

245/70'S are ideal size, 265/75's on my tdi auto have very little impact on city driving, if anything my acceleration is better and highway cruising is excellent.

Not really a 300tdi manual is a slug regardless. I would not go higher than that but this size never gave me grief. I've tested with the 235/85/R16 i put on the defender when swapping the rims over and that was noticeable even over the 245/75.
I imagine you could get away with it if traveling long distance but start stop in traffic it was a pain with the manual
