jack the rear up, leaving the wheels on the ground
I'm just about to change the donut on the rear prop shaft on my '95 TDi Disco to a Uni joint as they keep wearing away. I've undone all the bolts and the shaft is free but I can not compress the drive shaft enough to slip it off the spline (at the diff end) or the bolts (at the transfer end).
Any ideas on how to free this? I've tried lots of leverage but just can't get it out.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
Take out grease nipple at slip joint, and push harder !
The straighter/more level the trailing arms the longer the distance between the diff and the transfer case.
compress the springs, as per all the logic previous.
if you have long studs on the hand brake and the long propshaft (tolerances count here) you may need to wind off the radius arm nuts and lever the axle backwards off of the rear side of the radius-chassis bush to get the extra 1/2 inch you think you're going to need (and it only misses by about 1/8th inch)
you're also screwed if you have the v8 and all of your mounts are sagged
you can try levering the whole gearbox and engine assembly forwards but unless its on a hoist and you have 2 friends with long crowbars that wont work... A hydraulic jack and suitable extension might also work if you go from the drop out cross memeber to the back of the bell housing.
