Motor back together, wont turn over.

Hey guys, about 2 months ago i cooked the motor. Its the 3.9 V8. So after a long rebuild its back together and all ready to go. But when i go to turn it over all i hear is a tick and nothing happens. It didnt do that before this had happened Iv checked the wiring and everything seems to be in order. I gotta get this thing back on the road asap now, this bloody weather is making it hard for me to ride.

If I understand your description correctly, one of the most common causes of turning the key and just getting a click and no other effect is a poor connection on the battery terminal or some other thing that is severely limiting the amount of current getting to the starter motor.

Take the spark plugs back out and see if it turns over with the starter.

I have seen newly rebuilt engines where the rear crank seal wasn't fitted correctly and jammed the crank from turning.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Yup, do this first.... Then go down the bad earth track.

Good luck, I'm sure it will be something simple

    Cool Easiest checks first.

Or simply get a socket spanner onto the nut on the crank pulley end from beneath the car and pull the engine over by hand in a clockwise rotation, (looking from the front), for at least one full revolution with plugs in just make sure that the ignition is off and transmission is in neutral, handbrake on.
This will be your best indication with least work that the engine is not seized and turns freely.
Then check the electrical connections to starter, earths etc, which is in all possibility what your problem is. Gaz

I had exactly the same issue with my newly rebuilt V8. Turned out the motor was too tight for the 14 year old starter and 2 year old battery to have the guts to turn. With both of them replaced it started first turn of the key.

As Lotz-a-Landies has said, try with plugs out, and if it doesn't spin still you know you've got an electrickery problem.
