Hi all,
I took the sedimenter out 2 weeks ago to give it a clean. It was full of black jelly stuff and white slime. I put it back in and had trouble the first time as the rubber seals didn't mate properly with the housing and it was sucking air in and pushing it through to the main fuel filter. The seal seems about 1-2mm too small in diameter, so when trying to mount it back to the housing it keeps coming off one on side.
I removed it and re-attached and all seemed to be working well for the last 2 weeks, but now there is heaps of air coming through to the engine again and the car is stalling all the time.
Is there a secret I have missed to ensure a good seal? Should I be using some sort of grease to hold the rubber rings in place or sikaflex as a sealant on the rubber rings to ensure no air is sucked in?
Any help would be much appreciated as this is our primary vehicle.
Kind regards
Nick
replace the seals.
if they have gone hard and you disturb them they almost never reseat.
you can get away with using rubber grease or softening them up by soaking them in cooking oil but it doesnt last forever.
an emergancy supply of rubber grease can be had at most hardware stores in tap sealing kits.
