Before you get too carried away I would get it idling at home and go through every connection you can safely access and give them a gentle wriggle. As others have mentioned it could be a bad connection or even a broken wire inside the insulation. I recently found a loose ground connection below the fuse box on mine I didn't have any issues as such but this sort of thing could be the cause of your pain.
I would also be checking the plug connection and other connections on and around the ECU behind the glovebox. This should only take a hour to go through but you may get lucky.

    Sounds identical

TPS would explain a few things. but my other thoughts was with the AFM. would the additional pull of air through the AFM from going open throttle make it come good? Doubtful but I'm just thinking out loud.

I fully agree with the lads suggesting the TPS..... not long after a top end rebuild my TPS **** itself and the symptoms you describe are identical. I bought a second hand one from a wrecker for around $90 and after fitting the replacement TPS the ol girl was cured.

    Good luck!

    Hi guys,

Just to close out / follow up on this... The good news is the issue has been solved.

A few of you were spot on regarding the TPS being the issue!

I contacted the blokes up at British offroad at the sunshine coast and after almost falling off my chait when told the price of a new one $300 they hooked me up with a known good second hand one for 80 bucks.

Popped it in and today drove from Brisbane to Bribi Island and up n down the beach all down and home without one single cut out.

I guess all the other things i replaced would have needed doing eventually anyway
