sounds more like the throwout bearing starting to go to me, or wear patches on the finger.
either way, somethings got to come out to get to the clutch.
Hi,
I have had my 96 disco (300TDi/R380 gearbox) for about 3 weeks. I am quite certain that I have a spigot bearing noise. It is not continuous. It will happen several times a day for a few seconds while the clutch is right in ( actually when the clutch pedal is just off the floor.
Some history: The previous owner (who I trust) has just had a new clutch fitted before selling the car to me. He supplied the mechanic with all parts including a new spigot bearing. The mechanic fitted the clutch with the comment that a new spigot bearing was not required as the old one was in good condition.
The question is how long will this spigot bearing last? I know this is like questioning the length of a piece of string! However, I want some indication as to whether I should remove it sooner or later. If urgent, I will be going back to the previous owner and his mechanic!
Cheers in anticipation.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
typical spigot groan , how long will it last ?, what sort of string are you using ? . Good luck with warranty after a change of ownership.
PS, I have listened to this noise in one Disco for well over a year maybe 40k and pulled the box and I couldn't see anything wrong with the bush, put a new one in anyway and the noise went , they just get dry. I've been told they can grab and spin in the crank, but yet to see it myself, we never really touched them on old Holdens and such, just stuffed it bit of grease in them and put the box back in when doing a clutch.
It does sound like a spigot bearing gone dry. They should be soaked in oil and installed with the clutch kit. I've made the same mistake, once only and never again. Re-pulling a gearbox just for the spigot bush is embarrassing.
I'd get it replaced sooner rather than later, it's wearing every time you take off.
