I've got no problems with wheel spacers, personally I think they are a good, cheap way to increase track width, BUT in Australia, they are illegal in all circumstances to have on a vehicle that is used on a public road.... (Unless fitted by the factory)

Reason for this (I believe) is the extra stresses they place on various components that may not have been engineered to take those loads.

So, use them if you want, but unfortunately the Constabulary and more importantly - you insurance company, may not like you very much...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I had bulldog spacers on my Defender. Took them off and gave them away. Blurry hard to centre and balance.

    Wheel Spacers

I may have had them on my Defender! Never had a problem with balancing or anything for that matter. They give the vehicle a wider stance that (in my opinion) improved the handling. But the single greatest thing was the vast improvement in the turning circle once the lock stops where adjusted.

I'm sure that I read somewhere in the parts catalogue that they are an option!!!!

    Cheers

Have you consider different offset rims.......in Aus you are allowed to increase you track by 50mm...I think. I see you are chasing 60mm

I think 60mm is only because the spacers come in 30mm widths.

    Cheers.

I think it's mostly because the average wheel spacer is complete rubbish with no engineering input.
It's possible to do them safely, but you can guarantee the average ones found for sale are several times weaker than the hub and wheel they're bolted to. Either from fatigue or impact the wheel can completely detach.

I used bulldog spacers on a heavily laden 110 in Africa for 40,000kms... And on some of the worst roads imaginable, wheel bearings were fine, never broke, never came loose and for balancing.... Well never tried, can't recall ever seeing a wheel alignment machine... If legal in Oz I would fit them.
