    Buying-1998 Disco V8 Auto-What to lookout for?

I am wanting to buy a 1998 discovery v8 auto and wondering what I should look out for? it has done 266,000kms. and apparently had a RWC done 6 months ago. Looks clean from the photos.

If you could give me some advice that would be great.

What to look out for in a 16 year old 4WD??? Just about everything!

Seriously though, the cooling system is the biggest killer of these engines, regular maintenance is critical to keeping them alive. Everything else is just typical wear and tear but D1s are commonly wrecked and relatively easy to get parts for.

G'day mate,a few other things to look for, rust or leaking around the sky lights, signs that the rear barn door has dropped or moved because if so it will leak when washing, rear ball joint above the diff, take your time looking for rust in the floors and wheel arches, check the auto for smooth changes when cold and hot,and as mentioned before check the cooling system.hope this helps mate

Thanks guys, I have it now and it is practically rust free. a few seals cracked but thats fine.
we took the intake manifold off and because we couldnt drain the coolant at the time, we now have coolant down in the cylinders. whats the best way to get it out!? Cheers

    Remove ALL 8 spark plugs

Remove the Fuel pump fuse (Don't wont fuel spraying everywhere)
Remove the +pos and -neg wires to the coil (Don't want the coil to ark)

Turn the motor over via the starter motor.
Spray CRC or WD40 down the spark plug holes ... then wind it over again.

    Cheers

Next time just remove the filler plug from the radiator and siphon out the coolant with a length of hose. It's a clear passage all the way to the bottom of the rad tank.
