    300 TDI head cracks

Hi can anyone tell me if the cracks in this 300tdi head are enough to scrap it? Its cracked between the valve seats, injector hole to inlet valve seat of cylinder 3 and 4 and around glow plug hole of cylinder 2 and 3. Yes this head has been hot.

I've seen much worse repaired (ground, welded, resurfaced). But need to ask what replacements are worth? Might not be viable once you chuck all that labour, consumables and machining at it.

Got the head off one of mine at the moment but have not quite got to cleaning up that good to see cracks yet, I will have to examine more closely. Very slight warpage between 2&3 , seems to be .004"or a bit less.
So, loanrangie, from your experience those cracks will almost inevitably extend into the water jacket areas?
I will talk to Myers Cairns, engine reconditioning shop, I think they can pressure test not sure if before or after re-surface, not too sure I'd want to invest $950.00 for a new head in a $750.00 vehicle.

Can you tell me what your symptoms were? Was it steaming out the exhaust? Any oil in coolant or just air?

New heads are 300GBP complete with valves. Cheaper than the cost of getting even a good 2nd hand head reconditioned.
