Hey all,
So, some of you may remember I had the Master and Slave Clutch Cylinders replaced a couple of weeks back, the slave's sealed was... rooted!

Since then I have hit a few other issues. Lets start from the beginning (time wise). First up, the mechanic took it for a spin after the job was done and came back saying it seems pretty good, feels like plenty of meat on the clutch still. However, the flywheel may be slightly warped as there is a small shudder...
Ok I though... small shudder, let's see how this goes... Get in, drive a few hundred metres... Nope, I would describe that as a reasonably large shudder in certain gears at particular loads and RPM.
That shudder went away a day...ish later. Which I think worried me more than the shudder did. All was good (as good as a LR can be anyway) for a couple of days. Then on came the squeal or persistent chirp.

The squeal\chirp:
It only happens under load (Medium loads definitely, some light and heavy - wide throttle - don't produce it) and while moving. It is worse and happens for a wider range of loads while it is cold. After it is warm the range is a fair bit smaller.
Under no load (ie. Neutral) I don't get the squeal. I also tried popping the transfer box into neutral and going up through the gears, trying as best as I could to put a little load in. Obviously trying to test if maybe it "is" a pulley or the gearbox. No squeal.
It doesn't appear to happen in reverse, only forward gears. Once it warms up it rarely happens in first and only slightly in second, little bit more in third and a fair bit in fourth (I don't hit fifth all that much).
On occasion when I chuck the clutch in say from second slowly down at the lights or something I can hear a faint squeak that I am now not sure if it was there before... (I've been away a lot).
Anyone got any ideas? I'm stumped. I don't have a garage anymore to work on a lot of stuff and I am suffering from a serious lack of time and patience at the moment as well. I really would love to get out on the tracks again while I am back here in WA, but I don't want to risk it with this...

Do you take your pills with or without water ?
I would BEFORE you drive anywhere else get under the vehicle and check your UNI-JOINTS, esp. the front driveshaft, lift a front wheel off the ground, knock the transfer case and g/box into neutral (chock the rear wheels), handbrake off.
Take a large pry bar/screwdriver and torch with you and give the uni's a workout, do the same for the rear tailshaft, If the front or rear tailshaft uni's are stuffed, replace before driving, Regards Frank.
A few possible sources of your noise come to mind, 1/ A dry universal joint, usually to pin the exact uni joint you will need to uncouple the driveshaft from the transfer case (front and rear). 2/ Another possibility is a cracked flexible section in the clutch driven plate hub, (the one with the friction lining material), I have seen this before on other vehicles, the borders of the fracture rub together under load and slight flexing produces a "chirp". 3/And also check for tightness and security of all the bolts holding the gearbox bell housing to the engine, when we picked it up from its previous owner our '98 Tdi had the gearbox loose on the engine due to snapped off and loose bolts, this created some interesting noises, luckily it did not fall out on the way home.

Thanks for the replies. Though no need to get snarky. Some of us don't have endless cash and time to throw at their vehicles. Especially when they are going through a split!
Those are good suggestions. I will try and look at them this arvo. Luckily I live where I work these days. I'm hoping its not something critical/expensive.
If its dry uni joints would I just need to grease them up a little or is it a replace job?

Okey dokey, the verdict... Yep a uni joint! Front shaft closest to the transfer case. She squeaks pretty good even with reasonably slow movement of one of the front wheels. Doesn't look pretty either (or rather it looks pretty with some nice shiny metal showing...). It hasn't "gone" yet, but I'd say it wouldn't be far off.
Luckily I have no need to drive to work, so I can avoid using the ol' girl. I am away for 4 days as of tomorrow night, so no time to sort it out until next week unfortunately. Simple enough job really. Not too expensive either luckily. Could have been worse.
