My lift pump was leaking so i just fitted a delphi unit, it was still working though.
Hi all,
Again discoveries on a discovery
Discovered today that my glow plugs are not working. They are getting voltage but no current draw. Which means all 4 are shot. With all 4 connected i get 36 ohms, which is way too high for glow plugs. What brand is reccommended for 300 tdi? Also what kind if there are different ones.
Lift pump. Manual handle is very loose. Can't feel any resistance when pumping. With engine running i cracked open bleeder on fuel filter but fuel is just seeping out barely. Not squirting in pulses as someone mentioned. Is this a good sign that pump is faulty?
Thanks for your advice!

Not sure on brand but your local 'sparky' would be able to supply the right plugs, BUT, when I tried to order a set of glow plugs for my TD300 from the dealer he told me 'NOT TO WASTE MY MONEY, YOU DON'T NEED THEM IN AUSTRALIA UNLESS YOUR IN THE ALPS.'
I still bought and fitted them.

Mine still starts also. But it takes lot of turning over on cold mornings. I know it may be bad earthing or srarter or low compression as well because it seems that starter is struggling.
Maybe plugs are not necessity but healthy glow plugs won't harm it thats for sure.

Not sure about your last comment Roamer Aus, glow plugs draw a fair bit of current, if a battery is a bit on the low side they could draw enough that the turn over is not quick enough to start the motor. I never used to wait for them, but the knowledge that they were there for cold places (that I never got to) was good.

Hi,
We have had this subject before... If the 200 or 300tdi won't start without glowing, there is another underlying problem. Unless it is real cold indeed, like colder than -12.
Which is way different to the 2.25d.....

Good to see post coming to life!
Mine starts without glow plugs. It just takes maybe 2-4 seconds of cranking when cold. When warm starts instantly. I'm just saying good set of plugs can not harm it.

as for the lift pump, it will only have resistance at the bottom 10-15 mm and that is if it is sitting on the back of the cam lobe. You may need to rotate the crankshaft to feel the difference.

Tried few times with rotation. Always the same. No resistance on the handle. When engine running i open bleed on fuel filter and diesel is barely seeping out. Not squirting out as someone mentioned it should be. I also get tecking sound from that part of the engine. So pump is maybe just barely working but not properly.
