    98 d1 300tdi running chassis under a 93 body

    hey guys and girls i need everyones help, i have two d1s, a 93 pre update 3.5 v8, and a 98 300tdi.
ok so situation is the body on the 300tdi is past its used by, all the body mounts are cracked and bit of rust in the old girl.
the 93 body is in excellent condition, my question is, how hard would it be to body swap the 93 onto the 98 chassis, and in nsw would i have to engineer this or just get new rego papers??? Thanks in advance for the help, Kern

Its much harder to register a newer chassis with an older body than it is to just fit the entire 300TDi driveline and fuel system to the earlier body. It has to do with proving ADR compliance, going backwards is rarely easy. You will still need engineering approval for welding the replacement engine mounts in but it should be quite straight forward.

awesome, yeah was thinking just weld in new engne mounts but then did know if it would just be easier doing a body swap, having both cars there

There were a whole lot of ADR changes that were introduced in 1994 - such as side intrusion, rear lighting and a few other things I cannot recall. The updates have these in them the pre updates do not so technically you may have legal issues putting a 93 body on a 98 chassis as the body will not be ADR compliant - investigation may provide ways around like fitting post 94 tail lights and maybe post 94 doors etc - maybe not though.
