Hi guys and thank you all for your ideas and help. I will methodically check each point you guys have mentioned and see if I can locate the source of the vibration. have a beaut day and thanks again -Gerry
Ps. it is an automatic.
By the way, like you guys I love my Landrover. Had some of the old series years ago, but with raising family and all that goes with that, I have not been able to afford a decent Landrover for many years. Being on a disability pension made it very hard too.
It is a good honest vehicle and worth every cent I may have to spend on it and I reckon it will see me out. That's one of the reasons I wanted a Landrover. I have many other reasons but I am not here to bore anybody with my story. Again, have a bloody good day. See ya
Wow, That's a lot of info. Thanks guys. I will check all the above points and see if the problem can be located. Thank you for the welcome and I am sure I will be able to contribute at some point in the future. Thank you all again - Gerry
Hi workingonit
Thank you for your time and effort. to answer your questions: It is an auto. acceleration and top speeds seems normal. it is cyclic. No noise when turning engine off. oil pressure lights seems normal. Will remove belts and run for a minute to see if anything changes.
The local guy (non Landy repair centre)who thought it was the engine mounts and gearbox mount told me; "Its a Landrover mate" and thats the way they are. I am not a total idiot (a partial idiot could be on the cards hahahahaha), but I know this is not normal for any diesel regardless of the make. The whole dashboard vibrates.
This was not doing this when I bought it a few weeks back, although i did feel a sign of what was to come. It is not the kind of shake that is visible (like a plug not firing on a petrol motor), but tends to resonate through the car and show i guess at the weakest point. The Dashboard. Also as I mentioned it worsens at 2000 rpm.
Thank you and have a good day.
keep us informed on your findings.....

Given its rev related and maybe not driveline which you have checked over, perhaps one cylinder is not firing the same as the others, ie more or less fuel. I have been told in the past that a blocked injector may be the cause of engine vibration.
If it's (was) like my D2, it could be the tranny fluid. After fixing a leak, I had this horrible vibration when the torque converter was locked in under slight acceleration where the whole dash shook violently. Changed the tranny fluid and put some shudder stop and has been good for 18 months now!

Being an Auto, it could be Torque conv. or flex plate related, I don't think the Auto has an inspection plate at the bottom of the bellhousing, the insp. plate is on the front section of the flywheel housing. It has one bolt larger than the other, the large bolt hole is for the crank timing pin, undo one bolt and let the plate swing out of the way and rotate the engine by hand with 27mm socket, ext bar to suit and breaker bar, only turn clockwise, (solenoid switch wire on inj. pump disconnected). Check the bolts/nuts securing the T/C are all there and tight and look for any cracks or splitting of the flex plate (flywheel). Normally vibrations when driving can be traced to uni-joints or mounts, so if it is vibrating while stationary it won't be them, worth checking though. Check the front crank pulley (dampner), see if you can move it by hand, do not apply a pry bar as the outer ring is rubber bonded to the centre section. With a torch and motor running check that the crank pulley is not wobbling or moving in and out, also check it while revving the engine up and down, check all the other pulleys as well.
If not any of those it more than likely to be Torque convertor/Flex plate related, good luck, Regards Frank.
