Its probably a gum leaf stuck in the heater blower fan. AFAIK the ECU lives behind the RH kick panel. Have you tried removing the glove box and looking behind it?
For a week or so now I've been hearing an ECU arcing out under the glove box. It sounds like it's shorting out somewhere, but no dash lights come up nor does any strange electrical trouble occur. This is happening more and more now I'm beginning to panic. I recently replaced the thermostat and notice the thermo fans kicking in sooner...not to mention the slight leak from thermostat housing but the only problem with the car is an air gap on FL ABS sensor. There's no smell or smoke and it never plays up while I'm investigating of course. I'm looking for any/all ideas please or maybe some reassurance. TIA everyone.

I wish it was a gum leaf, ECU under glove box can feel it clicking when put fingers on it, got a reaction by turning on wipers but has calmed down now for days, have tested as much as I can, earth is good too, but everything works fine so I will hope for the best. I think maybe dry solder similar to electric windows ECU maybe.
What year is your D1. My 1996 D1 had the ECU behind the drivers kick panel. It could be the window ECU your looking at which is behind the glove box.
Cheers, David.
