    Starting issues disco 3.9 v8

    Hi All

I have a 95 3.9Ltr disco (technically I have two) but only one on the road. I have done a lot of work to get it back on the road after previous owners let it run down. It came with an idle issue-ie it didn't.

I removed all the intake plenum and cleaned and reistalled, new gaskets etc, set the idle setting as per the book and cleaned stepper etc. Also replaced spark plugs/leads and rotor and cap, all parts from Ritter (rotor and cap are lucas). Generally the car is good now but I have issues with starting sometimes.

Cold start ok, hot start ok, but warm start (a few hours sitting but engine/under bonnet hot) car barely starts and idles very slow and gradually picks up cylinders. I thought perhaps the air flow meter needed adjustement as I could see a small amount of black smoke in exhaust on the dodgy start, adjusted from 1.7V to 1.0V now the cold start this morning was like the warm start.

Is the air flow meter fuel trim adjustment critical to starting usually?

I also note that it has a BOSCH ignition coil as someone has set it up for twin batteries at one stage. I might have to do some swapping of parts etc from one disco to another but was wondering if anyone else has starting funnies?

    Regards,

    David

My guess is that the fuel pressure regulator is failing and slowly dribbling petrol into the inlet manifold after switch off. Take the vacuum hose off the regulator (at the back of the plenum chamber) and look for signs of petrol leakage.

    Hi

I had heard or maybe read on this forum that they give trouble in that fashion however even after risking a petrol flavour drink by sucking on the vac line to regulator no drink for me. Doesn't guarantee it regulates though. TPS voltage appears good and smooth, it's a strange one. What's strange is it runs fine once started.
