At least 75% of your braking is achieved by the fronts and they will come on before the rears, i would say you need to check your hubs for swivel and wheel bearing preload plus condition of all steering components.
I have installed new rotors to my 97 TDI, fronts were DBA and rear EBC.
I have talked to many people and they said that this would be OK, but after about 2 months I have a brake balance issues.
It seems that front is engaging earlier (not stronger) than rear, a audible "thump" jerks the truck, when breaking hard and when the break pedal is released, especially from hard breaking. It feels like either front of back is engaging and releasing quicker.
Also when I turn the wheels (either way) it feels as if front wheel (one on the outside of the turn) was grabbing faster. When going slowly on the turn and applying brakes, the front corner dips heavily toward the outside wheel, as if that wheel was breaking stronger than others. (it does not matter which way I turn, its always toward outside wheel).
I had the car in the shop today (didn't tell them about the different rotors) and they said that I have to replace ABS sensors, but my ABS light only stays on for about 30 second from ignition and then goes out.
Any ideas?

Do a full and comprehensive flush and air bleed of the braking system, from my experience I would doubt that using different brand rotors Front/Rear would make a bean of difference.
Being as it's ABS equipped it could be a faulty sensor read or something like that. Gaz![]()
Also check your brakes hoses for softness and bulging when braking, if they bulge then the fluid is filling the bulge not going to calipers
I had the same problem a few years back,I changed the bias valve and that solved the problem.
Disco man, what's a bias valve? Where is it. First time I hear about it.
Thanks everyone for chipping in. I am taking the truck to the shop this week to have it looked at among more general check up. I am getting ready for 5 day touring trip with 20 landys to Lampung, here in Indonesia. Should be cool.
Solved. The "clunk" sound on breaking (and releasing the pedal) was coming from the radius arm bushings being completely wasted. In effect the entire axle was moving, (rotating on its axis) which made the brakes feel uneven (front to back) because in fact the front wheels would star rolling with slight delay (the worn bushings absorbed the initial movement forward).
