    Thanks for those replies!
Confident mine would do 150+ with std size tyres (espec if hwy pattern), and without the 2 inch lift and the added weight .
Probably my performance is reasonable for a conservative tweak given the car setup.
The exhaust ( original i think) needs some attention as the rear muffler is holed will sort that out and then maybe retweak the FP

with standard tyres the speedo reads well over real speed on most if not all D1's, if reading 100 real speed is about 96-97 at 120 on the speedo it is only 115 real speed, would be way out by 150.
I found with running 32's the speedo was slightly under 102 at 100 on the speedo

That's true. I ran 145-146 as above on my speedo about 6 years ago. On a sat nav the speed would be up about 150.

    Yes definitely the case
Speedo is very nearly correct at 100 with 31's and 5%ish over with 29's.

On the spur of the moment on a fairly flat stretch of secondary bitumen I wound her out ( eventually) to just on 140 kph ( i know this is close to correct) with egt at close enough to 700.
This is with 31 inch muddies, a larger ( Jase's?) intercooler and a mild fuel pump tweek a few years ago. It also had BBar, winch, dual batts and a storage box in the back-so a bit heavier than standard.
It just feels more sluggish than it used to and cruising egt's maybe 50 higher.
Do any other 300tdi D1 drivers know their top speed?
    I have made the following conservative adjustments on the FP;
    -took 2mm of the spacer
-wound the star wheel cw 45 degrees
-wound the smoke screw cw 3/4 of a turn
-left the diaphragm where it was as it is already aggressively positioned

Result: noticeably improved low to mid range pull makes driveability around town much better, revs past 3000 much more freely. Egt's rise a bit faster so will need to keep a closer eye on them but I think they will max out at about 700 as recent trip through the hills to Tom Groggin area saw a max of 650 with some hard pulls up long inclines.

Quite confident that max speed would be at least 150 now but not going to bother testing.

When it was dyno'd after the original FP adjustments some years ago it made 73kw at the rear wheels ( front shaft off). Assume it would make a little more now. Happy with this easily achieved improvement.

    Same.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
