    Fuel problems ?

    The Car: 1993, 3.9 V8 Disco
The Issue: Over the last couple of months my Disco has developed a bit of an intermitant problem, it can be hard to start from cold. Sometimes it starts first turn of the key, often it takes quite abit of turning over to get it to start. Once it is up to temp it start first turn of the key (like it always has) everytime. There is good spark when it turns over, had a new starter motor 4 months and has had plugs, dizzy cap etc cleaned. I have also replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the small pre-filter attached to the fuel pump.
Most times when it is hard to start there is no smell of fuel (flooding) however every now and then there is a strong fuel smell and it runs abit rough for 10 - 15 seconds.
I am starting to think that the problem may be in the fuel pressure regulator or some where else in the fuel system ? Am I on the right track or have I missed somthing ?

Fuel pressure regulator failure begins with fuel leaking out through the vacuum hose into the engine. Pull the vac hose off with a cold engine and look for wetness. I've replaced a few on various engines over the years, LR included.

I ould start with checking the delivery rate and the power draw on the pump.

if you're lucky its a dodgy relay or connection to the pump

It may sound obvious but I just replaced my 5 year old battery that didn't have enough juice to start in the cold but would start fine once the Disco was warm.
