They might be collectable but they are still not worth much.
I bought one (V8, auto on gas, runs well) for $250

If you think they are collectable I'll sell you the body at a large profit

I need the money to turn the rest into a ute

At 240k unless severely abused the bores should be good, mine at 330k were as new.
Unless you want to fork out for a replacement and get nothing for it, i would replace the head after confirming bottom end is good.

I had the same drama when I cooked my engine in the end i brought a 2 nd hand engine striped it down with fresh bearings etc cost about 2 g all up. I would of spent allot more on a new 2nd hand replacement vehicle that could **** itself at anytime and cost even more to fix plus add up the cost to add all the good bits to the new one. Love my landy and will never sell it. Bought the mrs a D3 few months ago awesome bit of kit but it will be the D1 going to he cape next yr as able to fix the d1 on the side of the road the D3 would be a truck ride home ( is he only car have ever owned that have had to read the manual to work out how to operate it)

    Randylandy,

If you get a chance, grab one of Gordon's (gghaggis) GOE manuals, or sit in on one of his sessions. That really opened my eyes up to the potential of the D3/4's and was much better than the manual for explaining how to get the most out of later model Land Rovers. You might even take it touring afterwards!

I have a D1 and my BIL has a D4 and they are both great. Anyway, enjoy both your beasties!
