    Exhaust Question

My 96 300 Tdi has just had the engine pipe crap itself where the flexible bit is.

Is this flexible bit needed? Can I save a buck and cut it out and just weld in a piece of pipe?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Why not just replace it? You can get a suitable new replacement on ebay for $60 delivered, it helps stop the rest of the system from being shaken to bits.

    I would replace it.

I don't have one in my LC troopy and the exhaust keeps braking further down.

The flex joint is there to allow the engine to move without the exhaust having to move as well.

Thanks bee utey. Yes for $60 I will replace it. I was not aware of this option.

Do you know how this is fitted. Is it a weld or clamp job. Being stainless can it be welded to steel?

Most likely clamped. Mild to stainless welding can be done but not the preferred option.

On d1 its welded but you could flare it and make it a slip on.
