    Defender TC in auto tdi.

Just wondering if any members here are running a defender tc or gearing in a tdi auto with stock diff gears and 32's , i'm happy with my current un-modded performance but a tc swap is on my mind.

Ive not done it but. Defender tcase will change high range, but not low range performance (same ratio).

What is it that you are looking to achieve by changing the tcase?

I'm happy with low range as it is, gearing change is not an option so next cheapest option is a 1.4 tc, i want to relieve some stress on the drivetrain when towing.

The 1.41 defender case with 235/85/16 tyres gives you about 450 rpm more at 100km/h. Towing it is ok as the tc locks in at around 65km/h in 4th.

The last few auto conversions into defenders we have done go really well :-)

I'm running 265/75's so close enough to 235/85, if i move up to 33's it should then take me back to stock gearing roughly. Justin, can the gears be changed in situ instead of a complete box ?

Yes to changing the gear train, you will need the input gear, intermediate gear and high range gear, but make sure you measure the input gear bearing landing distances, there are 2 different ones, not interchangeable.

i have just recently done this.
exact same tyre size and everything

i found it more worth while with acceleration and brought the speedo to nearly correct (only 2-3kms/h out now)

it only took me and a mate about 4hrs to swap over laying on our backs in the garage
