Wiring up a Rijidij rear light

Hi guys, as the title says I have wired up a rijidij rear light (excellent quality kit) but I'm having no luck in getting the "on in reverse" section of the switch to work.

I have run the always live and negative to a fuse block on the rear passenger side that is feed straight off my Aux battery.
The reverse wire has been spliced into the reverse wire for drivers side rear light cluster, the purple with a green trace.

I just cant seem to get it working fully! On and off yes, but its not coming on when reverse is selected.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    KC

First off use a multimeter or test light to double check that is indeed the reverse wire that you have spliced into. If it is indeed the reverse wire then check the connections to your light and that all your earths are correct.

are you using a relay to activate the light or just a 3 way switch ?

Check with your local RTA, it is illegal in most States to have a rear facing work light that works off your reversing or any other light that can be switched on from inside the cabin.
You can only legally use a rear work light (white light facing to the rear), it has to be independent and only able to be switched on from the rear of the vehicle, stops hoons switching on rear facing work/spot lights while driving, Regards Frank.

The Rijidij light has 3 wires, 1 earth.. and 2 power (One for each direction on the toggle switch.)

I ran one power and one earth to a constant power and an earth point in my rear guard.

I then used those to also supply power and earth to a small relay.

Next connected the second Rijidij power wire to the relay, and switched the relay from the positive feed of the vehicles reversing light.

So if the switch on the pole is set up - the light comes on as a camping light (Note I cannot manually turn it on from inside the car - so it is legal)

If I flick the toggle switch down... it comes on when I select reverse.

Or i can select the middle position to leave it off.

    Works perfectly.

My set up was similar but it was only an 18w led light so I didn't use relays.

    I had a 2 way (on/off) switch
    Centre pin to the earth
Top pin to constant power from my aux battery
Bottom pin to the reverse light

To be legal (in Vic) you cannot operate the switch from the drivers position, mine was just inside the back door.

I had one rigged up at the rear of my 41' Fruehauf tri-axle trailer so as I could back into dark loading docks in the wee hours.
I see you're "pretty sure", even though you haven't checked, my truck had "Interstate" plates and I was booked in Mosquito City (Rocklea), Qld., Regards Frank.

I just had a look through the adr's and commlaw and tmr

I can't find anything stating they are illegal, all I can find is they must only be able to be turned on via the reverse gear switch

Thanks for the suggestions, finally sorted it. Seems I was being a bit of a spanner.

I had the manually selectable 'on' hooked up to my aux battery along with the negative. However the reverse wire was to the main battery and I had the dual battery system out while I was sorting bits.

Turned out I wasn't getting a complete circuit as the batterys were not joined. Problem fixed. However not now the reverse light only come on with the gear stick pushed hard into reverse. Guess the linkage is too sloppy.

    Thanks again guys.
