It's so easy to bypass the terrible landrover system and put in a $10 ebay keyless remote system by tapping into the wires on the passenger kick panel. That way, you get a good range (30m vs standing by the side of the car with the remote under your chin or something stupid), a much lighter and smaller remote, and location relays etc.

I've got two old fobs sitting in my cupboard if anyone wants them.

But doesn't the factory fob work as an immobiliser also?

A 3rd party actuator will lock and unlock without activating the immobiliser/alarm by direct lock/unlock on the drivers door. Personally I've disabled my immobiliser anyway after problems.

You can use a 3rd party lock with the immobiliser/alarm system but you need to give it the key in signal prior to the lock/unlock signal, which requires (fairly simple) custom electronics.

Pull the dash apart and bypass the spider. You can buy some part to bypass it, or just make up some wires to bridge the plug at relevant points (I can't remember exactly how, but it was straight forward). Don't try resoldering it - the joints just crack again (which is why I've done this at least twice).

Note you can use aftermarket key fobs without doing this and just need access to the kick panel.

    Thumbs up Aftermarket FOB question

Got a '95 D1 NAD model without key Fob. Cannot start using ignition. Only starts by jumping red wire at bulkhead to Battery positive. Runs great but I would like to be able to use my ignition.

damien: what Fob did you purchase? Did you have to order the programer or follow Rave instructions?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Tito
