    BONNET UNDERSIDE INSULATION

    G'day All,

Is the stuff stuck to the underside of the bonnet necessary? It looks like a fire hazard and would only raise engine bay temps to me. Is it's only purpose to deaden noise? Noise doesn't bother me...I drive a 20 year old truck for a living!

If it's sagging you might consider just glueing it back up. I used a Sikaflex adhesive/sealant (forget which one) about 5 years ago to do this and it's been fine ever since.

It's both sagging and disintegrating There is also a section about as wide as the serpentine belt missing.....no prize for guessing what happened there eh! I'll remove it completely.

I seem to recall something about a Mercedes under-bonnet lining fitting ok...perhaps you can search and find if you decide it would be worth replacing said item.

Nah, it's OK. If it only reduces noise it's gone! I'll just turn up the stereo

It's surpose to smother a fire in the engine bay. The plastic clips melts and drops down. I removed mine and made no difference in noise and maybe keeps the engine bay cooler. Easier to clean too.
    Cheers, David.

I think the engine bay would be cooler too. A fire is less likely and less severe with diesel anyway :-) I'll remove it over Easter. Gonna make a mess!
