    WINCH, ROOFRACK, UNI BUDGET

    Hey all,

First post i've made on this forum,

Just wondering what kind of winches, winch plates, and roof racks you're running?

I'm on a fairly tight budget but wouldn't mind installing a winch into my 97 D1 300TDI (TJM T15 winch bulbar)

HOWEVER, i need to buy/ make a winch plate that fits in there...

Then find a suitable winch (liked the look of the WARN TABOR10k, but bit pricey)

And has anyone got a nice roof rack that follows the contours, yet stays low... (I could live with a straight one that leaves a minimal gap at the back, and simply leaves the space where the dip in the roof is at the front...(new lighter location )).

    CHEERS ALL

    Looking forward to the replies!!

    Hi Liger9.
I have recently put a full alloy cage ECB (East Coast bullbars) roof rack on my Disco.
It might be worth talking to them about what you want. They won't be a budget option, but it might give you a starting point to see what you can do.
Only photo I have at the moment is this one.

I bought the blue Disco for its bull bar and rack, (and parts) for less than a grand.

As far as a winch goes, I would suggest that you really need to think about why you want a winch straight up if you are on a budget.
A couple of straps and always going out with a mate is a lot cheaper, and might be a better option anyway. Ha ha.
Maybe don't put yourself into those hairy spots for a while (until your skill level is up a bit) and you might find you can get away without a winch for a fair while.
From what I've seen of winches, 40% of them don't work when needed because they haven't been maintained or used.
They are a BIG expense for the 2% of the time you need them.
You can do a lot of other great mods for the price of a winch.
There are a lot of fantastic tracks and places to go that do not require winching. Have you been to all of them yet?
We went out a few weekends ago and had to winch 10 vehicles up a rock ledge on a track. Only two vehicles had winches and one didn't work on the day.
The one guy winched himself up and turned around and tied to a tree and winched everyone else up. (It was a PTO winch, not electric.)
It was probably less mucking around than everyone having to run their own winches out anyway.

    Just some food for thought.
    Jeff
