    200 tdi injector/fuel pump leak

    Hey guys

Just recently notice that my injector pump has started leaking, looks like it's coming from one of the seals but it's pretty hard to tell. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and how they went about fixing it. I've attached three photos. The one that has the circle around it is where the fuel is leaking from. It's just slowly coming through the join, probably drips once every 15-20 seconds but I'm sure it's only going to get worse so need a solution. Cheers!

There is a full seal kit, cost about $40 when i got one about 6 months ago.
Fixing that will involve taking the top cover off and replacing the gasket around that cover and the shaft seal.
Only tricky bits are that you have to undo the max fuel screw to remove the cover and you have to ensure you get the linkage back in right.
There is a bush for the shaft which you might need to replace too if in poor condition.
Head over to lr4x4 on the tech archive and read the article from simonb.
I'll post some more pointers when on the proper computer.

Last couple of things for tips on the job.
1/ Degrease and clean the area

1/ Mark the throttle spindle, unlike me, mark the spindle to throttle arm, it actually has alignment marks already you don't need to take it apart at all, just to undo the top nut and pull it off.

2/ Get some wobble allen keys, or be prepared to undo one or two of the cap heads a tiny bit at a time.

3/ When you come to take the cover actually off, put your thumb on the throttle spindle and push down as you lift, the spindle won't come out on it's own and will stop you taking the cover off.

4/ Refitting the throttle arm the spring is a pain, the trick is to get a loop of string and use that to pull the spring through and tight and then let it hook on.

Everything else is on Simons post, and basically involves marking everything.
You could even do a bit of a tweak to the tuning while you are in there, probably best to at least turn up a little, at this age the fuel pin will have a groove in it, so moving a bit will hardly even be a change from standard.
