    Coolant level alarm

Having just purchased a 300Tdi one of my first objectives is to fit a water level alarm of sorts. I have seen Mad Man and its nice, but expensive and probably overkill. What other coolant alarms do people use in their Tdi's?

What about a basic home made continuity tester wired up to an audible alarm and light? Anyone done this?

They are available through the shop on this forum. Great product and simple install.

    Ditto.

Bought one through Inc's shop, it'll protect the recent engine rebuild.

Cheers. That's just a continuity tester with piezo alarm, bit pricey for what it is. I might look at making one, far cheaper... thanks anyway.

I did one with suitable float with integrated magnetic activated switch, few pieces of wire, buzzer and led. Had all the parts already. Very simple. You just need to be carefull how to mount the fload and that it will withstand hot liquid.

    madman is good

when you look at those coolant level kits for almost 200 an ems is about 500. but you get much more functionality. to be honest i think its money well spent and not overkill at all. the system they send it with for the coolant level is just 2 SS screws which form an electrical connection with the water.

wasnt a fan of screwing into the header tank so another member here gave me a link to a float type system which works with the ems. there are also radiator cap type systems.

i will be installing the kit in the next few weeks so will be posting on the what did you do to your disco thread.

The base Mad Man kit Ive been quoted about $419, which is not too bad as it does have greater functionality, but I think $160 for a basic water continuity tester is a bit rich.
