Hey guys.
I own a disco 1 v8 duel fuel (injected gas)
Anyway i find i have a nagging problem that i cant locate and is intermittent.
Car runs perfect however every now and again it just goes into like a limp mode where i cant accelerate and car barely idles. (does this on gas or fuel)
I turn the car off and wait about 10 seconds, then restart and its fine. Problem gone.
I can let the car just sit there idling for a minute or 2 and it will fix its self also.
I sort of expect its either coil or air flow meter but because its intermittent i am yet to be able to catch the problem yet.
Anyone have ideas as to what it could be?
Is it a common problem perhaps?
Cheers.

What Drinking problem ? ... I never miss my mouth with the can !
REMEMBER DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
Still missing my old 96 Diesel - RIP
Thanks mate i will look into that.
Not entirely the same symptoms however i might have caught mine early.
I will take my air blower with me and a bottle of water so next time it happens i can check this theory.
Only thing that does not fit with my problem is the temp.
I can have it play up on me at any time. Even minutes after starting and before its up to operating temp.
Also my car does not die it just goes into limp mode. But idles all be it rough as guts. Normally even when hot as a quick stop and restart fixes my problem every time thus far.
Thankyou for the advice though mate i will give your suggestion a go next time it happens.
No probs , your probably right mate ..
It took a few of the guys here to help me fix mine as that post showed ..
good luck and I am sure one of the wizards will cruise through very soon ..
cheers
BTW : Still pouring rain here![]()

The D1 of course doesn't have a crank angle sensor so it's no good trying to find it and cool it. I'd suspect your MAF has a poor connection causing the ECU to go into limp mode. Try cleaning its connector or find another working MAF to borrow for a while. When you turn off the ignition the ECU checks the MAF anew and runs fine if it's working at that moment. And of course it'll affect LPG as well as petrol because the MAF is the major determinant of injector timing. You can check the TPS too with a multimeter and slowly rotating the throttle open (ignition on, engine not running), the voltage reading at the red wire should rise slowly from around 0.5V to 5V.
I am yet to locate this little problem GRRRRRRRRRRR
Going to change the ignition module tomorrow in the hope that is the problem.
Have cleaned the HELL out of the MAF and IAC with no noticeable change.
Changed ignition module today and problem still happens so i guess i will change my coil next.
After that i will change the maf im thinking......
Changed the coil. Was not the problem.
After much mucking around i think i have found the problem.
An exposed wire to the maf at the maf plug. (very hard to see)
Repaired that and the problem has not returned.
I imagine it was as stated above. Sending 0 volts from the maf for a second and forcing it into a limp mode.
Thankfully problem is now gone.
Only took me 6 months to identify it.
