    TD300 Exhaust System

Just had a new exhaust system installed in my D1 TD300.

The muffler was replaced with a Walker straight through model and the rear box removed altogether. Kept the same diameter pipe.

The difference to the vehicle performance is remarkable. Off the mark quicker, holds higher gears on hills. Installer also mentioned that a small increase in fuel economy should be evident.

Only a slight increase in exhaust noise but nothing to complain about.

All in all a happy outcome.

Is that the front muffler that was replaced? I still have both on my 300Tdi and they look original. Done 315,000km. What did the system cost, fitted? Cheers!

Did the same thing recently. Cost about $350. Very slight increase in noise level but cant notice it now. Very slight if at all, performance inprovement. Improved exhaust clearance.

i have a centre high flow muffler and nothing on the rear. there is very very slight droning but nothing that makes a huge difference to the overall noise of these things. and a plus is that it has stopped some of the annoying rattles in the car.

cost me $600 but that was complete from turbo to the back of the car. happy with it. perfomance is marginal but runs much smoother as breathes better.

Interesting re power, the Defender centre muffler is a straight through type, don't know about the Disco though.
My Defender has a bit of plain pipe replacing the centre muffler, and still has the rear original. No bad noises apparent. Don't know about power, there isn't much anyway.

    Cheers,

I removed both one defender, the only the noise resonated to the front was when driving along freeways with concrete walls beside ya. Oh and sometimes when the rear passenger window was down.

I had a look at the stock rear muffler on my 300 Tdi today while I was moving the spare to the roof to fit the hilift/shovel holder in its place and realised just how vulnerable it is in that spot. Has anyone ditched the rear muffler, replacing it with plain pipe and only left the stock front one fitted? Or is that a silly idea

I removed both cans from my exaust on Disco1. Originally I wanted to leave resonator on, but I saw come cracks on the welds so I removed it as well (instead of repairing), for a while anyway. Replaced them both with pieces of 2.5 inch stainless steel pipe. It is much noisier on acceleration, especially if you plant your foot down, but cruising around 60 or 80, no extra noise what so ever, cruising freeway there is just a little of drone noise, if you have fan on 2 for example you can't hear it any more, so it's not much really. Down side is that I haven't noticed any gains from it (apart sounding like a hoon at takeoffs), like quicker spool of the turbo or power increase. But it seems to me that it increased my fuel consumption slightly, not sure tough.

OP you state that there was noticeable increase in power. Is this from exaust work only or did you have some pump tweaks done as well?
