Syntrans 75W-85 or Redline MT85 or Penrite Pro Gear 75W-85.
Currently have Penrite 80-90? -need to check this- synthetic in my gearbox. been pretty good but in the cold i get the second gear hard to find problem. from reading up on here the two recommendations were redline mt90 and castrol syntrans Z 75-80.
now my question. where the hell do you guys get it from? i only found one person who stocks the syntrans in perth and only has 20L drums of it. the redline i can get from the net but at very high prices.
does anyone here know where i can buy a few litres of the syntrans?
Syntrans 75W-85 or Redline MT85 or Penrite Pro Gear 75W-85.
Redline might be expensive but their shock proof can transform gearboxes.
Happy Days.
ok i have the penrite 75w-85 in my gearbox.
so basically it is not worth to change it to one of the others for the price you are paying? it is not a huge problem, only when cold. during warm weather it's very smooth.
i was thinking more as a long run thing for keeping the wear in the gearbox to minimum and making it last as long as possible. is the penrite as good?
still cant find the syntrans 75W-85 though. no1 here seems to stock it. all over the internet.
I wouldn't use shockproof in a synchro 'box.
A t/case or diff, but not a synchro gearbox, the colloidal calcium can interfere with the synchro clutch and hub action, and Redline advise against it.
Redlines manual trans fluids are MTL, MT85 and MT90, all GL4 fluids, or 75W-90NS for transaxle use (it's a GL5)
Subies can be a problem, some swear by Motul Gear 300 or NEO 75W-90RHD, some Redline 75-90NS and I've heard the odd person using Shockproof, but it really is designed for hypoid diffs in drag racing and speedway.
One of the big Land Rover workshops in WA used to use Shockproof Heavy in the LT230 to eliminate the input shaft wear, but any decent fluid will do with the cross drilled input gear.
I rebuilt my LT230 a few weeks back and @ 325,000km there's no wear on those splines and it's used a mix of fluids over the years.
The first four or five years I just dumped in whatever was cheap and available as the leaks were so bad.![]()
