Anyone??? Really need some info as I replaced the coil but still did it this morning. Even if anyone knows what that warning light is?
Hey guys having a few issue with my 3.9ltr d1 95 model. before I waste time trying to diagnose thought I'd ask if anyone knows.
Basically the other day coming onto the freeway on ramp an orange warning light with an exclamation on it illuminated for split second and engine died (lost all engine power ) as soon as the light went off engine ran fine. Today drove about 100k no problem then the same thing happened again twice, light comes on for a split second engine does then runs fine. Then about 5 minutes after the light came on engine started misfiring. Misfired for about 5k then cleared up. About 10k later misfired for a few k then cleared up. Light came on once more after that.
Anyone??? Really need some info as I replaced the coil but still did it this morning. Even if anyone knows what that warning light is?
check youre battery or alternator make sure they are both doing what they are supse to do my engine light came on recently battery was on the way out same with alternator a few years ago lucky to get 150 k out of alternator
So driving this morning I noticed the light came on again then 5 minutes later starts misfiring. Cleared up pretty quick then ran fine for about 20 minutes, then again light flashed on then straight away started to misfire, then a few minutes later the light flashed on and off 2 or 3 times and ran great as soon as the light went off and ran great all the way too work. 1 thing I have noticed is when the light comes on it does feel like the breaks are coming on.
So I'm thinking if the light is causing a break issue and misfire issue. The only thing I'm thinking it could be is break booster. If the booster is knackered it could vacuum and pull the breaks on then cause the vac advance to come on causing a misfire.... That's all I can think of.. The booster is the only item that affects both breaks and timing...
Wow, that's some mighty theorising there. Unfortunately I have no idea what the warning light stands for but lets assume it's an ECU fault light, and only comes on when there's something major wrong with the injection system. There's little point theorising about the brakes (not "breaks") or the ignition as neither of them are controlled by the ECU. I'd advise you see a Land Rover mechanic who has a diagnostic tool to read ECU faults. Perhaps first go around checking all the connector plugs for injection based bits under the bonnet, eg the air flow meter, the injectors and the temperature sender for the injection.
Does it simply just feel as though the brakes are coming on, because the engine is no longer providing power. I know if I take my foot of the throttle rapidly at 100km/h it feels like I've ran up the back of a car, the old Disco slows down so quickly.
I agree with Bee Uteys comments, and I've done it to myself before, and seen other people do it, of spending a dollop of cash on 'what should be wrong' when often times a trip to the mechanic for $100 can save you all the diagnostic dramas. Not saying you can't do the work yourself after that.
Yeh I agree I'd rather have it scanned but my nearest rover mechanic is a few hours round trip and I'm just not sure when I could get down there as time is scarce. I work around 70 hours a week.
I thought at first it was just the engine dying that made it slow down but this morning going downhill at 100k the light came on and the car noticeably slowed down so I'm positive the breaks are being applied ..
Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it.
I'm also gonna try and find the flash code procedure as Iv found the codes online if I can work out the flash code procedure I can scan it myself.
Does the car have an OBDII port? A scanner is worth about $5 on ebay. Maybe worth a look
I assume it will just gotta find out where it is. I looked eBay and couldn't find any cheap scanners but I'll have another look.
