Have you checked the toe (out) ?
Hi all, I have my front drivers side tyre is wearing on the inside. As far as I know the only way for the caster to change on a 96 disco is for wear to occur in the swivels? If that is the case, do I just need to replace both upper and lower swivel bearings or is it often only the top swivel pin and bearing that goes? (I haven't looked for play as yet). I ask this as I see you can get a major rebuild kit and/or an upper pin amnd bearing kit. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom.
P.S. it is ABS and (I think) standard height.

It's a camber problem - the passenger side tyre is fine.

X2 for a toe in/out check.
Check for any movement in the hub, bearings, tie rods first as a precaution.
I supplied tyres for our recent(ish) purchase with a alignment promise by the selling yard.
I had 1 tyre starting to show wear on the inner edge after 5,000Km.
When I got it in for an alignment it was 4mm out on the toe
We had to apply heat to get the tie rod to move so guess it never got looked at.
Well I stand here humbled bowing to your greater LR knowledge. I checked the pivot/wheel bearings for wear this morning. Absolutely none! (which is good) So I booked it in for a wheel alignment in the morning, and when I described the problem, I got the same advice! Toe in or out!.
I'll just quietly slink off now before anyone notices
Cheers,
Tom.

Never mind BT, it is just that your response in post#3 indicated that you knew what your problem was. And while what you were thinking of is not impossible, it is unlikely.
Sounds as if you're on the right track (so to speak) now
A wheel alignment on this type of LR can even be considered as "home maintenance" if you want - no need to get charged the extra "4WD" price at a mechanics when it is relatively so simple.
Simple, that is, until you get a seized thread as referred to by alien. Then it becomes character building......
