I would personally call that on the limit for the metal laminate gasket and reccomend the material composite.
given your head is likely to be perfectly flat you could go either way.
If fitting the composite materiel gasket I usually just give the head and the block the go/nogo with a 2 and 5 thou feeler gauge using lots of variations on straight edge position and alignment on the block. IF
If I get no go with the 2 thou everywhere on both the block and head I bolt it up and this is the limit for the laminated metal gasket with the sealant on it
IF I get go with the 2 and no go with the 5 I'll bolt up with the composite material gasket
IF I get go anywhere with the 5 I'll map the entire thing and check the tolerances. anything over 7 thou off flat is owners call, no warranty, anything over 7 thou total seperation is again owners call no warranty. I also check, piston protrusion and "wiggle" bore markings and will recommend stripping the rocker shaft to inspect its wear pattern.
Well my previous feeler gauges went down to 4 thou and could not get it in anywhere. Got another feeler set that goes down to 1.5thou. I could fit the 2 thou between p3 and p4. The 2.5thou didn't fit anywhere. So at worse i have between 2 and 2.5 thou in one spot.
When i can get out of bed I'll try feeling the head in the same pattern.
I have an elring composite. Hopefully all be apples. Put a lot of effort in, I'd be devastated if it went awry.
Bit worried bout this though. There's a few spots on the block face which have pitting like this. Not much, just a couple and when you run your finger over them you can't really feel anything. They were there from the start after i took old gasket off. In one area you can see little triangle patterns like the gasket has.
Can't really do anything though as I would have to polish down thus removing thous.
I have a saying for that. ok Ive got few...
the harder I work, the luckier I get.
you put the yards in you get the rewards its a pretty simple concept that fits in with
Of course Im not doing anything right now, I did it right the first time.
Its a false economy to take short cuts if they dont work, it is however a great way to gain experience.
Draw a box around the 10 headbolts around the 4 cylinders.
is there any of that pitting inside that box..
if not, You're not worried about it.
if that pittings the worst example you have of it... you're also not worried about it.
in fact slip your grip on reality and delisionally utter the mantra of assurance " a farey told me its fine"
Yea that's the worst of it in that pic.
go get better.
its fine.
