    Suspension upgrade

Hey guys and girls, I'm slowly upgrading the D1 and was curious if i can upgrade the suspension separately? By that i mean springs first and shocks later. Its a cash flow issue. The little lady sits real low at the back on the passenger side. Shocks seem ok, last owner had them replaced 8-10yrs ago. Had them inspected and they said they were ok but an upgrade in the future would be good. Springs were no so lucky, original, rusty and just nasty looking. I will be getting 2' lift. Cheers

If your shocks feel OK there's no reason why you shouldn't look at new springs, its an easy upgrade. They will at least level things up. 2" should be fine, even if you push the shocks you have to the limit there is no loss with their age. Even if you keep your old shocks, check the bushings while you are working on the springs, they can often break down and cause vibrations if they have crumbled away or over compressed. Good ones can be found separately in places like Supercheap or Ebay, depending on the kind that are currently installed.

Yes you can change springs by themselves and shocks later.
    Even with the lifted springs.
Keep a look out as new sets are pretty cheap now days.
You might save money buying springs and shocks together and not separate.

The most important part of your upgrade is the shocks, cheap shocks are not good value.
I bought a set of Bilstien shocks ten years back and they are still working OK, when they do wear out I can have them rebuilt for the cost of a set of cheap shocks.
The only way to test old shocks is on a machine for that purpose.
Shocks get hot under stress and that's where the cheapies fail.
Get your springs first but don't buy crap shocks, they control the springs and therefore the ride and handling, Regards Frank.

Even if you can only afford front shocks now as you have to remove them to get the springs out so will save the head ache, rears are a lot easier so can be done any time.

Is there a preference between king springs, or Lovell springs? The price is essentially the same, and both OZ, so figured I'd do with what people have recommendations on. Some sets on eBay with shocks for 650. May lash out and grab a set this pay.
