    disco 1 swivel hub seal

Hello, can any one tell me if the big outer hubseal should fit snug in the swivel hub housing? I'm in the process of replacing both left and right hub seals. I've pulled the old one out and it was a loose fit in the housing and the new seal also is loose in the housing. Mechanic by trade just doesn't seam right to me as I think it will still leak over time.

And a leaky swivel seal is a sign of the swivel bearings may need adjusting.

Thanks for that. Land Rovers are a different cattle of fish. Nothing worse than cleaning everything up and assembling and finding it leaks. Just purchased the vehicle and going over it making shore everthing is up to scratch. I want to make it reliable and bullet proof.

It's loose to allow for movement between the swivel ball & housing when adjusting swivel preloads so make sure you only tighten up the retaining plate after you have tightened up the top swivel bearing (if you've had that apart). Tighten the plate gradually/evenly too.

Another question, what grease do people use in there front wheel bearings? In the hub kit and wheel bearing kit I have it cam with 2 tubes of Bearmach one shot swivel housing grease, looks to thin for grease but real tacky, I was hoping to use Castrol Spheerol HTB2 grease as we use it in truck wheel bearings. Still getting use to Land Rover world but am enjoying it. Any quick replies would be good as installing hubs tonight.

Your choice of grease for wheel bearings.
The one shot is for the swivel hubs.
Grease the splines on the end of the axles as well.

Thanks for the quick reply, will do, do you think running the one shotswivel housing grease be used in the swivel hubs? I was going to run Penrite 80w/90 oil in the hubs, your thoughts?
