the cost of doing a proper rebuild on an lt77 is on par with getting a good second hand r380, and thats assuming you only do the syncros bearings and one or 2 of the gears.

lt77 shafts are getting a little thin on the ground too.

if you get one try to get the linkages for the tcase and the mechanism on the top of the box. its also wise to grab spare/replacement switches for it as odds are you're going to naff one on the way in (I usually do so I remove them fit a blanking bolt and then swap over the sensor when all the dangerous stuff is done)

To all knowledgeable people this is the issue I have now.

I have purchased a second hand R380 out of a petrol 1996 disco, it has a noisy bearing.
The drama is I will have to rebuild one of these boxes, the R380 I purchased I can see the bell housing is different, have to run a oil cooler,

Will the bell housing from my LT77 bolt onto the R380 box? Do I have to change input shaft on the R380? The R380 didn't come with any linkages for the centre diff lock, will mine from the LT77 fit this? Will my clutch release fork, clutch slave cylinder fit? The engine is a 200tdi.

I just don't know if I should still do the conversion or bite the bullet and just rebuild the LT77. Any help would be awesome.

Is there a spare parts manual available for these gearboxes, I have the hard copy workshop manual and CD repair manual.

    Cheers Woosha.

If I'd known you were looking at rebuilding a r380 i have a diesel one here i could've let you have cheap. The petrol one will rrquire an input shaft change. It drove fine, i had it sold then on removal found yhe input bearing was knackered...give me a call tomorrow. It'll be complete with bellhousing , fork everything. Will make an easy rebuild...
